White power chain!

(This update sponsored by: Bridget!)

Sometime last week I began to realize that the dreaded gap was coming back! The giant canyon between my central incisors was coming back to haunt me. I decided to be proactive and go back in to ask for a power chain before it got too much worse. I had to sweet talk them to let me come in without an appointment but there was no way I was going to wait another two weeks for something that takes 5 minutes to do. So, lucky for me I was able to sneak in on Tuesday. They didn't have any clear ones left and I almost decided to choose a brighter colour but ended up settling for a white one. I actually think I like it better than the clear ones, it emphasizes the symmetry more. Here's a photo taken on Tuesday. The gap is about 50% less already today.

ps. The fact that the gap came back is actually a good thing because it means the arch wire is making my occlusion wider, which is what's supposed to be happening right now.

Are you still having numbness in your lips or chin since your surgery, Graham?

Hi Connie. Yep, chin is still improving ever so slowly, that part takes the longest. I think it will be healing for another 6 months. I've gotten somewhat used to it but hopefully it will be back to normal eventually. It's definitely better than it was initially. My lower lip is probably 80% and I expect it will be better once my chin progresses a bit more too.

I see. I am having a horrible time with the numbness in my upper lip, lower lip & chin. But I'm only 2 weeks post-op. The swelling is going down nicely, but I was kinda' hoping the numbness would go down with it!

I have a doctor's appointment this coming Wednesday, hopefully my jaw will be un-wired then and maybe just the elastics put on? Wishful thinking on my point, I'm sure....2 weeks just doesn't seem long enough. I'm getting sick of Ensure, soup broth, milkshakes and juice! LOL!

Just to be able to eat some chopped up spaghetti or mashed potatoes would be nice!

Hey Graham, isn't it interesting how fast teeth move! Good for you for being proactive. I am still amazed at how great your bite looks! How's it going with eating? With the numbness? M

Hiya Graham!

Was un-wired 2 days ago! Wow, the FREEDOM! LOL! Feels really weird, because both my upper & lower jaws were pulled forward during my surgery, so it feels as if everything is "sticking out", even though it isn't.

Can only open my mouth about 1cm wide right now, my jaw muscles have "locked" on me. Guess that's normal? How long does it normally take to be able to open your mouth fully again after being un-wired?

I have an infection...an abscess has formed in the lower right side of my jaw. On the 3rd different antibiotic in the last 2 weeks, they're TRYING to get it under control. But for now, I have to keep taking these nasty-tasting antibiotics, and live with the pain, swelling and occasional fever.

Geez, I just didn't need an infection to set in.....been having a difficult recovery, and now this!
